Historians, There is a (1895 – 1900) photograph that has a title “Treshing Melons at Kearney, Kansas” https://www.kansasmemory.gov/item/215853 . Can you explain what “threshing melons” means?? Any information you can share would be gratefully appreciated.
Farmers threshed melons to extract and harvest the seeds. When farming large quantities of melons, manual extraction is too slow. Threshing machines ground the melons, and sieves were used to separate the seeds from the pulp and rind.
